I have two dogs that came from 2nd Chance. They are a no-kill shelter and every single person involved cares about saving these precious animals. My two have brought my family so much joy! The people who run this shelter have hearts of gold and dedicate their lives to saving animals and finding good homes for them.

There are so few people in the world like Doug and Wanda McGee. Basically they have given their very lives to champion animals, in particular dogs. They are compassionate and unselfish. They care for what amounts to stray animals better than some people care for their own pets. These animals would be doomed without 2nd Chance. BUT they need help. Sponsor a dog if you can\’t adopt. Adopt if you can. If you can do neither send a donation of food, supplies or money. There is nothing to compare to 2nd Chance Shelter. They deserve praise and they deserve help.

Three of my dogs were adopted from 2nd Chance Shelter. Wanda and Doug are without a doubt my heroes. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a pet to go to the shelter. It\’s heartbreaking and inspiring all at the same time.

Second Chance Shelter in Marshall County, AL is run by awesome people. They show a great deal of love and compassion to the dogs. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a dog.

Second chance really cares about the animals there. The community supports this shelter because they are genuine people , with big hearts. They have dedicated their lives for these animals and I support them 100%. I have my second 3 legged dog from them that I have adopted, and my second foster currently from them.

Wanda and Doug are phenomenal. The time the love the devotion they give to these animals. Animals that are doomed forgotten abandoned scared little babies totally thrown away. 2nd chance is a no kill Shelter that gives back to our community everyday in every way. I cannot even imagine how we survived before them. But I do know Dekalb Co is a better place because of the shelter and the amazing people that run it and all the volunteers and adopting parents that have walked through the gates. Thank you from the bottom of my heart because you have given me a totally different perspective on animal life and taught me how to be a rescuer, my opportunity to give back to my community

I adopted my Ruth Anne from here, and they are the best people. They take in all the dogs, and no one else around will. I hope they win this – because they deserve it more than anyone else. 2nd Chance is the BEST!!

Our little Jake came from 2nd Chance Shelter and we could not have been more impressed with the shelter. Happy animals, caring staff, clean shelters … everything an animal could want except for a forever home. I was very impressedessed that George and Wanda are able to tell you a little something about each and every dog … and on some days that numbers 300 or more. And, each dog gets that human touch everyday. Great place!!!!!

Second Chance Shelter is in a small, rural town and gets very little financial support from gov’t agencies. Despite the handicaps, the founders of this no-kill shelter fund raise, recruit volunteers, and take care of around 300 stray dogs. The McGees have raised money to provide shade and wading pools for the dogs to combat the intense summer heat and straw for the cold winters. The McGee’s never stop working to feed the dogs, keep the place clean and find worthy adopters. I have never seen such dedication to saving abandoned dogs as I see in Doug and Wanda McGee. If anyone anywhere deserves recognition for their service to the unloved and unwanted animals in this country, it is Second Chance Shelter of Boaz, Alabama.

Ive known the owners since not long after they opened. Ive been to the shelter many times. Doug and Wanda have dedicated their lives to saving dogs! Theres been several times ive seen Wanda with tears in her eyes over the love she has for them! I cant think of anyone more deserving then 2nd Chance Shelter!

Marshall County doesn’t have an animal shelter. Second Chance Shelter survives with donations to help the animals find forever homes. There is no telling how many animals they have saved over the years.

They are a no kill shelter who treats and loves each dog as if they were their own. I got my rescue dog from them and highly recommended them.

Second Chance Shelter offered new hope to animals without hope. They strive to place animals in loving homes and have a new lease on life. They work tirelessly to do so. The owners have placed these animals as a top priority in their lives. The Shelter is run sloely on donations and volunteers. The animals they care for and find homes for are vaccinated and spayed or neutered before being adopted out. Each person who adopts from this Shelter is carefully screened. No animal organization is more worthy or would put funds to better use than Second Chance Shelter.
