Catrinas South Tampa Tacos and Tequila

Seriously after visiting Mexico a couple of times and some local Mexican spots around Florida Catrinas is by far the best Mexican restaurant outside Mexico. Everything is fresh and delicious. Tampa Bay needs more people to support this secret gem. From their home made furniture and dia de los muertos celebration Catrinas screams “Mexico”. Their tequila bar is the most beautiful bar I have ever seen made by chef and artist Tisbeth. Their new menu is funky and very original. Stop by and support you’ll not regret it.

The best authentic Mexican cuisine outside Guadalajara México. I am from Guadalajara and by far I can say they are the best Mexican restaurante un the US. Thank you chef Tis for always making me feel like Home. I Willy definetely be back when I visit Tampa again.

Tampa we need more support to the most authentic Mexican restaurant of the Tampa Bay Area. Seriously this place should be jamming at all times, but Tampa is not ready for authentic and real food instead greasy cheesy food. Be ready to transport yourself to Mexico with fresh food and ingredients. Wake up and visit this secret gem carrying the biggest tequila selection I have ever seen, the best guacamole ever with shrimp and home made chips but most importantly a history of family recipes from Guadalajara and very talented chef Tis artwork and food elaboration. We need to support this great local restaurant. Do not hesitate to chat with chef Tis or Karol you’ll be amazed how amazing these 2 ladies are.

We found Catrina’s by accident while taking my wife’s bikes to Flying Fish bike shop for some repairs. Walking in with the intent of grabbing a cold beer, we were warmly greeted by Karol and the rest of the gracious, attentive staff. The beer was as cold as could be (two of them turned to slush when opened… a trick I haven’t seen since leaving Minnesota) and we got the signature guacamole with seafood in it. Heavenly! We’ve since been back many times, and have always enjoyed the wonderful food created by Tisbeth, the attentive staff, warm atmosphere, and unique art, again by Tisbeth, along with other artists. Now, let’s get to the real artistry… the cuisine. This is real, almost ancient, Mexican food. No tex-mex Taco Bell Tijuana Flats stuff, but authentic, old recipies. And the ingredients are top notch indeed. It may cost a few dollars more than your typical taco joint, but you’ll be getting a real treat, made with healthy ingredients, and true Mexican delights such as Huitlacoche. Yes, Karol and Tisbeth serve authentic Huitlacoche! Spend some time on their website, review the menu, and go try it. You’ll love it… and if you love true tequilas, you might not ever leave, as the entire south wall is an absolutely fantastic tequila bar called Azul.
