Frank J. Rumoro Jazz Guitar/ Music Theory & Harmony Academy

I’ve played guitar since I was a kid, and I wasn’t bad. I took lessons from time to time, and I studied music in high school and college. My band in Chicago was together for 37 years when I first started studying with Frank Rumoro, and I can honestly say that he changed my life. I was only able to study with him for 5 years before I moved out of state, but I would have gone another 10 years if it were possible. 3 years after I moved, I still keep his lessons right next to my desk. Frank did four things for me: 1. he helped me to organize the knowledge I already had so that I could better use what I already knew. 2. He taught me how to practice to improve my skills; he helped me create routines, and he taught me discipline in the basics- picking techniques, keeping accurate time, applying dynamics, reading, recognizing patterns. 3. He gave me a new lexicon; he gave me a well-organized reference to and understanding of chords, taught me to use voicing effectively, expanded my knowledge of scales and how to use them more effectively, and all these things together improved my ear and my ability to pick things out of a song (which is critical in deciding what to put into a song). 4. He taught me to recognize what I don’t know and how to go about finding answers. I’m a different person, and the discipline I learned with Frank applies to my whole life.
