Hawaiian Poke Bowl

I admit, I’m a very picky eater. For a long while, I hesitated giving them a chance, even with all the hype. Honestly, I didn’t have the best experience when I tried it in the past back in 2011 when Hawaiian Poke Bowl was under the original ownership. I remember the quality of the food was okay, kinda mediocre and questionable; both fish and rice didn’t taste fresh. With that being said, I was a little traumatized and skeptic to say the least. Finally, after seeing them at numerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in the Bay Area (I used to train and compete), I noticed that they had changed owners in 2012. Back then they introduced a Brazilian twist to the menu, the AÇAÍ BOWL! I didn’t even think twice about trying that! Simply amazing!!! If you don’t know what that is, you better look it up. If you do, you know what I’m talking about it! Out-of-this-world deliciousness!! With that being said, I started observing all the happy customers eating their Poke bowls with gusto, and coming back for more so I decided to lose the fear and give it a second chance. So, after the first bite of the Spicy Ahi over brown rice, I thought to myself: “Wow! THIS IS AMAZING!!!! Where has this been my whole life??” Seriously, I couldn’t believe what I had been missing out. Needlessly to say, I am HOOKED now. I eat Hawaiian Poke Bowl at least twice a week, sometimes more. My favorites are the Spicy Ahi and the Spicy Salmon, the only two that I’ve tried thus far. The fish tastes fresh, the seasoning is not too spicy, it’s just the right flavor, and the rice is tip top consistency and always fresh. Totally worthy of what you pay, as they are not skimpy on their portions. Oh, did I also tell you about the Açaí bowl?? Yes, I just want to make sure that you don’t forget to add that to your order, as it is the perfect compliment to your meal. 🙂 All and all, I am glad that they opened their restaurant downtown San Jose at the SoFa Market. It makes it way easier for me to satiate my cravings now, versus waiting for them to come to the San Pedro Square Farmers Market (only on Fridays during the summer) or to the tournaments. On top of it, they offer a very warm, friendly and attentive customer service. They make you feel special in every way, and I think that makes their business stand out from the other Poke Bowl places. What I like the most about them is that after you order, they bring the food to your table with a cup of water, ginger candy and a huge smile. That is so unique, and I believe that knowing how to serve your customers and treat them well is golden! Overall, from the food quality, to ambiance, to customer experience, this place deserves a five star in my opinion. Thank you Hawaiian Poke Bowl!
