I have been impressed by Shelby Humane since Day One. The staff is unfailingly kind and caring. They live out their mission daily and save lives through the care offered directly to the animals and through the education efforts which aim to better the lives of animals in the community. I am proud to be an SHS volunteer.

Best thing I ever did was start volunteering here. I work with the smaller babies that are scared or just withdrawn. When you’re working with a furbaby so scared of everything, they scream in terror when you open their cage, and after some time, that first tender kiss as if they are asking permission to love you, that first little kiss can and will melt your heart. I’ve proudly shed many a happy tear when one of what I call my project babies go home and look forward to the next time.

They give abused, abandoned, neglected and homeless animals a chance to find a loving home, most of whom would not be able to do so without them.
